Investigations revealed low but persistent levels of arsenic and lead in the water and soil of Tlamacazapa. Atzin’s goal is to provide clean and sufficient water by construction of rain water tanks in households in the community. A second goal is to provide adequate sanitation by building “dry toilets” for each home. Dr. Susan Smith, Director of Atzin, is from Calgary and lives in Mexico overseeing the Atzin programs, which are designed to improve the life of the people of Tlamacazapa.
